This weekend will be Craig Lowndes 24th running of the Great Race and for the fourth year in succession, the Team Vortex driver will be teaming up with Steve Richards where the two men will be looking to make amends for their 16th place in 2016 when the car suffered a broken gear lever.
“I'm really looking forward to Bathurst,” Craig said. “We have some making up to do for last year when we had the gear lever issue and then a result at Sandown a couple of weeks ago that was less than ideal, but Richo and I are still feeling confident heading into it.”
“It's always a huge week and it's no secret that Bathurst means more to me than any other race or even the championship. I'm confident TeamVortex will work well together as a team and we'll hopefully come out smiling on Sunday night.”
Between the two of them, they have notched up a total of ten wins around the mountain, six for Craig and four for Richo, and the twosome firmly believe that their experience of 47 starts between them will help when it matters the most, race day.
“Experience does count and Steve and I, by the way we drive, we are both very similar in our outlook and behaviour,” Lowndes told the Western Advocate. “It's great to have Steve on board again this year and we are really looking forward to rectifying things. We are both very motivated to have a strong result there again this year. The new generation drivers go there with a lot of enthusiasm, but I think experience definitely counts for Bathurst.”
“You've always been told you can never win the race on lap one, but you can definitely lost it making a silly mistake or doing something like putting the car at risk trying to pass someone early in the race.”
