Aussie Daria Gavrilova produced a gallant effort, but couldn't get over the line against No.10 seed Carla Suarez Navarro in a three set thriller on Sunday night, losing 0-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Gavrilova hardly put a foot wrong in a scintillating first set which lasted just 25 minutes.

However, Suarez Navarro rallied in the second, taking the set 6-3 to level the match at one set a piece, playing through pain, as she twice called for the trainer to work on an injured right thigh.

Gavrilova grabbed the early break in the third, breaking the Spaniard's serve in the opening game of the set, with a stunning off-forehand winner, racing to a 2-0 lead.

But it all Suarez Navarro from there, as she claimed the next six games, to take the third set 6-2.

The Spanird will now face fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the quarterfinals.
