Jarryd Hayne has enjoyed an encouraging return to the San Francisco active roster, with some career best numbers in the 49ers loss to the Detroit Lions.

The 49ers went 32-17 in what was Hayne's first game since October.

San Francisco was forced to bring Hayne back into the side after the side's running backs stocks were decimated by injury.

Hayne rushed eight times for 27 yards in the first half and then managed five receptions for a total of 20 yards in the second half.

The former NRL star had managed just 25 yards in his first six NFL matches combined and just one reception.

San Francisco coach Jim Tomsula said “I thought he represented himself well".

While his numbers were career best for the NFL novice, they were still rather pedestrian statistics for a running back. Hayne still has a lot of work to do to save his NFL career, which remains very much in limbo.
