Australian Test cricket legend Mike Hussey says Peter Handscomb has already shown in just four Test matches that he could one day captain the national side.
Handscomb has started his Test career in incredible fashion, hitting two tons, two half-centuries and averaging 89.75 in six innings for Australia.
Hussey told Fox Sports News on Thursday morning the 25-year-old run machine will skipper the Test side in years to come.
“I'm sick and tired of talking about the guy, every day it seems like we're talking about how good Handscomb is,” Hussey joked.
“I hear people saying he'll be the next captain of Australia and I think down the track he probably will be, he'll grow into that role and take over after Steve Smith.
“But let's not put too much pressure on him at this stage. Let him enjoy this success because I'm sure there'll be a few blips and bumps along the way.
“But he's been outstanding. He should embrace it as much as he can at the moment.”
No Australian Test cricketer has averaged more after four matches, with Handscomb overtaking the previous best of Mike Hussey, who averaged 88.40 after his first four Tests.
