Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah remains a chance to make the trip down under for this month's T20 World Cup in Australia.
The Indian star suffered a back injury this week and has since undergone scans, with Bumrah already ruled out of his nation's remaining matches against South Africa for their three-match T20 series.
With just three weeks until their World Cup opener against Pakistan in Melbourne, Bumrah will be in a race against time to prove his fitness for selectors as India begin their planning for the tournament.
But despite the setback, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly remains optimistic about Bumrah's chances of featuring in the World Cup.
"Bumrah is not out of the World Cup yet," Ganguly told Xtra Time, as Bumrah continues to gain medical attention.
He missed three months of action with a similar issue in 2019, while a stress fracture to his back could potentially keep the fast bowler out for up to six months.
India have already pulled the trigger on bringing Mohammaed Siraj into their squad for the South Africans series, while a quartet of names are waiting to see if Bumrah is named for the World Cup.
The 28-year-old currently holds his spot in India's 15-man squad for the tournament, with Mohammad Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi and Deepak Chahar currently on standby.
India are scheduled to face South Africa, Bangladesh and two group winners following their clash with rivals Pakistan.
