There was a phase during the Spanish Grand Prix where Sebastian Vettel had pitted his Ferrari and came out in traffic, the German driver overtaking slower cars to work his way back to the front when he came up behind the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas.
Bottas soon became an obstacle that Vettel had a lot of difficulty in passing and when Lewis Hamilton pitted, it meant that he could put in some faster lap times to catch the Ferrari while it was being held up by his teammate.
Eventually Vettel got past Bottas after losing a significant chunk of time, but according to the Finn, at that point in the race, it was his job to slow down the Ferrari as much as he could to help Lewis in the fight for victory.
"I was doing everything I could to keep Sebastian behind and make him lose time, that's how it goes," he was quoted as saying after the race by Motorsport.com. "That was my job and mission at that point. But the pace difference was too big and eventually he got past. But I think I definitely helped the team. I hope it made a bit of a difference and at least we managed as a team to grow the small points difference to Ferrari which is good."
