LeBron is still the face of the NBA, whether you like him or not. He has the popularity and skill, even at his age, to draw in viewers and make members of his fanbase hop on the bandwagon of any team he joins. That possibility is no more prevalent than it is now, with James looking to depart Los Angeles in the off-season and take his talents to a potential fourth home.
LeBron's agent, Rich Paul, outlined some defining factors that we'll be going into the decision;
- Team needs to pay more than the minimum to obtain LeBron
- Team needs to have an already established identity and not need to break apart to afford LeBron
- Team needs to be a contender for a championship
Without these factors, it's hard to see LeBron go to a franchise that doesn't line up with his career trajectory of still wanting to play meaningful basketball, even if it's only for one or two years.
Here are some of the destinations I can see LeBron ending up in by the end of the offseason.
Miami Heat
Coming back to South Beach is definitely an intriguing idea for the King, who left his mark there with two championships and two MVPs. While the Heat have never looked stronger with the recent addition of superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, looking to be a move that will catapult them back into contention alongside Bam Adebayo. Questions still linger for the lineup regarding spacing, with the Heat having to give up a lot of their shooters in the Giannis trade, and that may impact LeBron's decision fit-wise.
Though playing alongside Giannis is not an opportunity every Hall of Famer gets, it may be one that LeBron just can't pass up, with LeBron using his playmaking ability to run as the team's point forward instead of combo guard Davion Mitchell.
However, the decision would be more based on returning to a place where LeBron knows he is wanted and a place familiar to his family. But with part of his decision said to factor in bringing another championship to a new team, a homecoming reunion may not be in the cards.
