LeBron James has made history as the first player in NBA history to score 50,000 points.
Heading into Wednesday's game between the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans, the 40-year-old had accumulated 49,999 points across both regular and postseason play.
In the game, James finished with 34 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, helping secure the Lakers' seventh straight victory with a 136-115 win.
"I'm not going to sugar-coat it โ it's a hell of a lot of points," James said in an on-court interview after the game.
"I'm super blessed to be able to put up that many points in my career in the best league in the world and against the best players in the world - it's pretty special."
The previous record of 38,387 points, set by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and standing for 39 years, was broken by James in 2023.
The Lakers' winning streak has also been bolstered by the surprise acquisition of Luka Donฤiฤ, who contributed 30 points and 15 assists in the Pelicans game.
"I mean, it's amazing watching him do this stuff. At this age, it's just unbelievable," Donฤiฤ told reporters.ย
"Like, 50K points. I can't even explain how insane that is. And he might get to 70K, you never know."
