Following his second placed finish at the Catalan Grand Prix on Sunday, Marc Marquez showed he was still the man to beat in the one day testing session at the same venue.

The Repsol Honda rider topped the timesheets of the test session that saw 18 riders taking part. He set his best time on his penultimate lap to finish more than three tenths faster than current championship leader, Maverick Vinales, who endured a very tough race here on Sunday. Teammate Valentino Rossi finished tenth overall, a second d and half off Marquez's blistering pace.

“After the challenging Catalan Grand Prix, it was good to have the opportunity today to test in similar conditions and we are satisfied with the amount of work that we got done,” said Yamaha's Massimo Meregalli. “Today‘s main goal was to evaluate two new frames that we brought here to test. Maverick tried some different settings and a different frame compared to yesterday‘s race bike."

"He could ride comfortably with a good pace, even on used tyres throughout the whole day. Valentino‘s focus has been mainly on testing the new frame, which gave him more confidence in the areas where he wanted to improve. Both new frames had some positive aspects confirmed by the riders and tomorrow they will switch frames between them.”

Jonas Folger finished third overall for the Yamaha Tech 3 team with Dani Pedrosa in fourth.

Alex Rins made his return for Suzuki after sitting out the past few races due to injury. He finished the day 17th overall.

Meanwhile, Sunday's race winner, Andrea Dovizioso or his Ducati team did not take part in the test.
