The Matildas will take on Japan for a spot in the semi-finals after the Japanese beat the Netherlands 2-1 on Wednesday (AEST).

Australia will be keen to get revenge on their rivals, who beat them 1-0 in the final of Asian Cup just over a year ago.

The Matildas however, beat Japan 1-0 in the 2010 Asian Cup Final, to begin a fierce rivalry between the two nations.

Japan, who are the defending champions of the tournament, controlled the tempo against the Dutch from the outset.

The Netherlands went two goals down after 78 minutes, before they pulled one back in stoppage time to make it 2-1, but it was too little too late, with Japan advancing to the quarter-finals.

Australia take to the field at 6am on Sunday morning Australian Eastern Standard Time.
