McCullum steals the show on an incredible first day in Christchurch

Australia have reached 1-57 at stumps on day one of the second Test, trailing New Zealand by 313 runs.

Dave Warner was the only Australia to be dismissed, caught by Guptil off the bowling of Boult for 12 when the score was 25.

Usman Khawaja (18) and Joe Burns (27) are the not out batsmen overnight.

Earlier in the day, the tourists won the toss and sent the Black Caps into bat, dismissing the hosts for 370.

Nathan Lyon finished with figures of 3-61, while Hazlewood, Pattinson and Bird each grabbed two wickets and Mitch Marsh finished with one wicket.

But the story of the day was Brendon McCullum's incredible knock in his final Test. McCullum blasted the fastest ever Test ton in his final match for New Zealand.

The outgoing Black Caps skipper came to the crease with the home side in a precarious position at 3-32, before smashing 100 from just 54 balls.

With New Zealand staring down the barrel of another poor first innings, McCullum took the momentum away from the Aussies, hitting 16 fours and four sixes on his way to a record breaking knock.

To add insult to injury for the Aussies, Mitch Marsh caught McCullum when he was on just 39 at gully with a sublime dive to his right, but the 34-year-old was called back with replays showing James Pattinson had overstepped the mark, bowling a no-ball.

McCullum was eventually dismissed for 145 from 79 balls in an innings that included 21 fours and six sixes.

Corey Anderson chimed in with an important 72, while BJ Watling scored 58.
