DJR Penske's Scott McLaughlin set the fastest time in Friday qualifying at the Mountain with Thursday's fastest man David Reynolds second quickest when it was needed the most.
With four cars in the top ten, Prodrive Racing is in prime position for a great start to Sunday's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
Having shown pace all weekend so far, Prodrive Racing will see all four of its entries in Saturday's Top Ten Shootout, where the fastest qualifier will sit on pole for Australia's Great Race.
Earlier in the day, Dean Canto (#5 The Bottle-O FG X) led the co-driver only practice session, while Chaz Mostert (#55 Supercheap Auto FG X) was second-quickest in the second practice session.
“I'm very proud of the entire team,” said Tim Edwards. “To get one car in The Shootout takes a lot of work, but to put all four in is pretty special. We've been pretty strong throughout the weekend, and having four cars going for pole should be advantageous. Credit to the crew for their hard work, and the drivers for their performances today. We're looking forward to four strong runs tomorrow.”
Mostert paced the team in group qualifying with a fast lap of 2m04.53s, good enough for third overall.
“The car's been pretty good since we rolled off the truck. We had a few issues in practice with some braking stuff, but it's good to be on top of that now,” said 3rd placed Chaz Mostert. “The car probably feels a little bit better as a race car. As the fuel load kind of went off (in qualifying) we kind of lost our balance a bit. But overall to be up here is always great. To be in the top ten, it's one of the best sessions of the year, to have the track to yourself.”
Cameron Waters (#6 Monster Energy FG X) was close behind in fourth, followed by Mark Winterbottom (#5 The Bottle-O FG X) in fifth and Jason Bright (#56 MEGA Fuels FG X) in 10th.
The quartet of drivers will all participate in Saturday afternoon's Top Ten Shootout to determine their starting order for the 161-lap race.
The session came to an abrupt end when James Moffat crashed, while the big surprise was that Red Bull Holden's Jamie Whincup missed out on the top ten altogether as did last year's winner, Will Davison, who will start 16th and Craig Lowndes and the triple 8 starting 19th.
