Scott McLaughlin set a blistering pace around the Barbagello Raceway this morning to record the fastest ever lap in a Supercar around the Perth venue .
The DJR Team Penske driver obliterated the competition with a lap of 54.69, the fastest of the top five, who were all Ford drivers.
The car was awesome. It was a lot better than yesterday. I learnt a lot with Fabs, so thanks to him we've got two strong cars,” he said after climbing from the car.
Mark Winterbottom, who had troubles early in the session when his the Bottle-O Ford had a broken left rear suspension arm, came back out in top form to finish in P2 ahead of his Prodrive Racing teammate, Cameron Waters in third.
The second DJR Team Penske of Fabian Coulthard was fourth fastest across the line ahead of the third Prodrive entrant of Chaz Mostert who finished fifth.
Mostert also had, or almost caused, some drama when he was attempting to warm up his tyres for his final flying lap and almost weaved the Supercheap Auto racer into the path of Jamie Whincup's Red Bull Holden, who was on a flyer at the time. After the session Chaz went down and apologized for his actions.
“I didn't even see Jamie coming up that quick because I was focussed on what was going on in front of me,” Chaz said afterwards.
Meanwhile, the boys down at BJR Freightliner Racing are frantically replacing the engine in Tim Slades car after his original engine failed after just five laps of practice.
