New Zealand has defeated tournament favourites India by 47 runs in the opening match of the Super 10s group stage.
The Kiwis won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 7-126, which seemed to be a highly achievable target.
However, with the ball struggling to come onto the bat, in reply, the hosts were bowled out for a miserly 79 from 18.1 overs, with the New Zealand doing all the damage, claiming nine wickets between them.
Only three players scored double figures for the Indians, with MS Dhoni top scoring with 30, while Virat Kohli scored 23.
Mitch Santner was the chief destroyer finishing with figures of 4-11, while Ish Sodhi nabbed three wickets and Nathan McCullum claimed two.
Earlier, Martin Guptill smashed the first ball of the super 10s for six, before being dismissed the very next ball.
The Black Caps also struggled for momentum, losing wickets consistently throughout the innings, but Corey Anderson (34), Mitch Santner (18) and Luke Ronchi (21) did enough to help the Kiwis post a respectable total.
The loss ends a seven match winning streak for India and broke several records in a humiliating loss.
India lost 9-44 against spin, with McCullum (2-15), Sodhi (3-18) and Santner (4-11) doing the damage.
The hosts had never lost more than five wickets against spinners in a T20 innings.
Santner's 4-11 are the best figures ever produced against India in a T20 off four overs.
