Kimi Raikkonen had a decent start in Sunday afternoon's Austrian Grand Prix, keeping the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton firmly behind him for the first stint, despite struggling with the handling of his Ferrari.
However, after coming in for his stop, Hamilton managed to get the jump on him and moved up into fourth place, leaving Kimi two places down on his starting position in fifth.
Not a lot happened to the Finn during the race and he ended up crossing the line in P5 behind Hamilton, because despite the improvement in the car's handling, by then he was too far behind to catch the Mercedes driver.
“In the first part of the race we had some difficulties with the balance of the car,” he explained. “I struggled a little bit with the first set of tires at the beginning, but then it was getting better and better.”
“The second set was fine: at the beginning of the last stint the car felt very good and we had good speed, but at that point we were too far behind to try to recover. As the tires were getting older we obviously started to go slower, but we were still doing good lap times and the balance was improving. Overall, though, it was not a very easy weekend.”
