Controversy at the Paris Olympics continues with a Nigerian boxer being stood down from competition after returning a positive finding for a banned substance.

Representing Nigeria, Cynthia Temitayo Ogunsemilore has returned a positive finding for the banned substance known as Furosemide and is the latest doping scandal in the sport of boxing.

"The International Testing Agency (ITA) reports that a sample collected from boxer Cynhtia Temitayo Ogunsemilore has returned an adverse analytical finding for the specified prohibited substance Furosemide (classified as S5. Diuretics and making agents according to the prohibited list of the world anti-doping agency (WADA)," a statement from the ITA read.

"The sample was collected by the ITA under the testing authority and results management authority of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during an out-of-competition anti-doping control on 25 July 2024 in Paris, France.

"The result was reported by the WADA-accredited laboratory of Paris on 27 July 2024.

"The athlete has been informed of the case and has been provisionally suspended until the resolution of the matter in line with the World Anti-Doping Code and the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

"This means that the athlete is prevented from competing, training, coaching, or participating in any activity, during the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

"The athlete has the right to challenge the imposition of the provisional suspension before the Court of Arbitration for Sport โ€“ Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD).

"The athlete also has the right to request the analysis of the B-sample."
