The resurrection of Usman Khawaja's form for Australia is sure to be leaving opener Marcus Harris nervous ahead of the fifth and final Test in Hobart.

Harris has amassed just the 179 runs across his seven innings throughout the summer, with further lowly scores of 38 and 27 in Sydney not doing his prospects any favours despite the tallies increasing his Test average.

In Khawaja's case, the middle-order batsman has already surpassed Harris' series total in the SCG Test alone, backing up his first innings score of 137 with another stellar century against England.

With the 35-year-old's spot at No.5 in Australia's batting order set to be filled by the returning Travis Head for the final Ashes Test, Khawaja's best chance of retaining his place in Justin Langer's side falls at the top of the queue.

The Queensland star has previously opened for Australia and his numbers are unparalleled, averaging 96.80 runs from seven innings at the top of the order.

Khawaja has amassed two centuries and two further scores of 50+ runs during his time as an opener for Australia, forging a strong case to pair with David Warner for next Friday's Hobart Test.

With Harris' final chance seemingly blown, Khawaja stands as the obvious choice for Australian selectors to consider in replacing the out-of-favour opener.
