What is the impact the Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, Ja Morant, and LaMelo Ball trades on the rest of the NBA?
Stars have shifted alignment in the NBA's ever-changing landscape, with some of the league's marquee players set to shake up the league on their new teams moving forward.
It hasn't been since 2019, when the likes of Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, Paul George and Russell Westbrook were traded where we've seen an off-season like this, making it all the more relevant to go through and rank the most league-changing trades.
These rankings will be based on their impact on the league and how they will change the NBA landscape moving forward, rather than on how fair they were to each team.
2Birth of a backcourt in Minnesota
Minnesota Timberwolves gets: Lamelo Ball, Josh Green
Charlotte Hornets get: Naz Reid, 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps (2028, 2029, 2030), three second-round picks (2029, 2032, 2033)
A move not even the most diehard of Minnesota fans saw coming, but one that needed to be made. The available cap space after the Julius Randle trade opened the franchise up to pair their cornerstone piece Anthony Edwards with an all-star backcourt partner in Lamelo. This is a dangerous team now offensively, but only if healthy, with Ball only having played over 70 games twice in his 6-year career. Regardless it's a gamble on talent the Timberwolves need to make at this point in time after falling short in the conference finals twice in the past three years.
While for the future this does work well for the Timberwolves despite losing fan-favourite Naz Reid and a future first along with pick swaps, since Edwards now has a point guard on the same timeline as him instead of an ageing 38-year-old Mike Conley and an out-of-form D'Angelo Russell before that.
Their success will be a matter of how the two-star guards' gel together, but with Gobert protecting the paint and McDaniels stretching the floor it looks to be a seamless fit that will strike fear in an already stacked Western Conference.
