Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi showed he was back on form for the third free practice session at the Mugello circuit in Italy on Saturday by recording the best overall time of the session.
The Doctor was more than three tenths clear of his nearest rival, Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez who finished the session second quickest.
Jorge Lorenzo thrilled the legion of tifosi cheering on the Ducati duo by finishing third only a fraction of a second slower than Marquez.
Alvaro Bautista was fourth ahead of the second Yamaha of French GP winner, Maverick Vinales.
