Maria Sharapova has cruised through to the third round of the Australian Open with a 6-2, 6-1 win over world No.105 Aliaskandra Sasnovich.

Sharapova dominated from the outset, hitting 22 winners and four aces as she never gave her opponent a look in.

Meanwhile, there has been another been name casualty in the women's draw, with two-time Grand Slam winner and 23rd seed Svetlana Kuznetsova knocked out 6-1, 7-5 by world No. 120 Katerina Bondarenko.

Kuznetsova won the Sydney International title less than a week ago, but failed to continue her good form at the first Grand Slam of the year. She joins Simona Halep (No.2 seed), Venus Williams (No.8 seed), Caroline Wozniaki (No.16 seed), Sloane Stephens (No.24 seed) and Sam Stosur (No.25 seed) as big name early tournament casualties.
