Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton made a good return to work after the compulsory four week mid-season break by topping the timesheets around the Spa Francorchamps circuit on Friday.
The British champion finished the morning session in P2, however he was the only driver in the top six to set his time on the supersoft compound rubber while the rest used the ultrasoft, so in fact the times were not representative of his true performance.\
Then in the second session, that was marred by rain at the end, Lewis ended the day in P1 using the Soft and UltraSoft compound tyres in FP2.
“It's great to be back! Today felt like one of our strongest Fridays so far this season,” Lewis said. “The car felt strong all-round straight out of the box. We made some good steps with the set-up right from the start of FP1, which is a really encouraging way to kick off the weekend. It looks tight at the top on the long-run pace, but we've started the weekend in the best way possible.”
