Star duo Lachlan Kennedy and Gout Gout have each finished in second place in their respective semi-finals.

The semi-finals at this year's Stawell Gift brought back bad memories for event organisers as strong winds and rain were followed by a power outage at the venue, just one year after torrential downpours caused serious delays to the event.

Despite the small hiccup, the semi-finals drew the eyes of the thousands of spectators who came through the doors to witness Australia's brightest sprinting talents.

The final has turned out to be a front markers affair after upsets to Australian sprint stars Kennedy, Gout, Jacob Despard and Jack Hale who all boasted tight handicaps.

John Evans has continued on his strong form from Saturday's heats and has once again posted the fastest time, coming in at 12.1 seconds with a handicap of 9.75 metres.

A competitive 12.17-second time to Jasper Thomas and 12.18 seconds to Dash Muir will see them in the mix when the six athletes line up for the final. Thomas will start on a 6.5 metre handicap, and Muir 7.75 metres.

Patrick Martin off 8.5 metres, Mitchell Oneill off 4.75 metres and Joshua Lotsu off 5.5 metres round out the field.

Gout said that although he is disappointed with the result, he is happy he had this experience.

"It's been great, this meet is incredible and the crowd is incredible, so I am happy to run and happy to be at this event," he said.

"I was coming pretty hard and with like 20 or 10 left, he was pretty far ahead of me, so I tried my hardest, and he got me at the end, so it is what it is."

The final will be on at 2:20 pm but fans will have another chance to see Gout Gout and Kennedy run in the backmarkers invitational handicap at 2:05 pm.
