The Mercedes –AMG team have brought a heavily revised W08 to this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix and both drivers will have a ‘Phase 2' Power unit upgrade at their disposal, which includes engine, turbo, MGU-H and MGU-K.
Another area of interest on the upgraded car is its weight, with reports that they have a new gearbox which is much lighter than its predecessor, that contributed to an extra 5 kilos of weight, which in turn affected the overall balance of the car.
It is said that there are also suspension changes and both the front and the rear of the car to help both drivers claw back the advantage that rivals at Ferrari have been displaying in the opening rounds of the season.
The Silver Arrows also sports a new nose that has once again entered new territory in Formula One. Longer and narrower, the new parts were arriving as late as Thursday afternoon in the Barcelona paddock. The new nose has three vanes with a number of elements on the body of the front wing, often referred to as vortex generators to produce air swirls that are used to deflect turbulent air.
This will help to redirect the airflow into more beneficial areas.
