Garth Tander will start the final race of the 2016 Supercars season, in what will also be his final race for the Holden Racing Team, from pole position after edging out his rivals in the top ten shootout.

This is Tanders first pole position start since 2012.

“It was a good lap, I didn't know how good it was going to be,” he said. “Cloud cover was coming and going, after my lap I wanted to get the sun back out. It was pretty close at the end. It's a long time since I've had a pole, it's a special one. We just wanted to come here and celebrate what HRT achieved over 26 years. This was pretty cool.”

2016 champion Shane van Gisbergen will start alongside Tander in P2, .01 behind the HRT driver.

Row two will consist of James Courtney and David Reynolds with Tim Slade and Scott McLaughlin on row three.

Michael Caruso Nick Percat Todd Kelly and Jamie Whincup, who made an error on his fast lap, round out the top ten.
