Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic has apologised after an ugly clash with security and staff at a Gold Coast resort during his Australian Open build-up.

An RACV Royal Pines resort member revealed the country's controversy-prone No. 1 told recreational players to leave a practice court — and verbally abused intervening staff — at training late last week.

The furious member also said Tomic, who has earned millions from tennis and endorsements, then baulked at paying the $20 court hire fee.

When he was confronted by The Courier-Mail last night, Tomic — who had been training for the Brisbane International — immediately apologised.

“I've been so focused on preparing for all my matches, I know there's no excuse for my behaviour. I didn't mean to cause any trouble and I apologise to the club members,” Tomic said.
