Shane van Gisbergen didn't have the race 11 he was hoping for when, after an off track excursion at turn one due to a blown rear tyre, he was working his way back through the field when he found himself sandwiched between the Prodrive of Jason Bright and the GRM of Garth Tander.
Bright ended up squeezing the Red Bull Holden driver and forcing him into Tander, but the damage was done with van Gisbergen's steering broken as a result of the Bright hit.
Shane then found himself veering off track and into retirement…
"The car is still baffling us today. We're still fast, but it just feels horrible. We couldn't fix anything, but we stayed fast,” he explained. “We qualified okay and the race was going alright, but we must have been too aggressive with the setup and popped the right rear tyre, so that's a shame."
"It put us at the back. I was trying to come through, I don't think I was desperate. I was calculated with all the passes, but I just got in with Garth Tander and the first hit broke the steering and I couldn't turn, so it's a real shame not to finish the race."
