Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has now graciously admitted that he knows Mercedes drier Lewis Hamilton had no ill intentions toward him during the Baku Grand Prix when the Ferrari hit into the back of the Mercedes under safety car conditions.
At the time Vettel accused Hamilton of brake testing him and actually drove alongside him and veered his car into the side of Hamilton's Mercedes.
The Stewards of the course handed down a ten second penalty for his actions during the race, but Vettel insisted that he didn't do anything wrong, that Hamilton was the one at fault.
However, that much noise was made about the incident, the FIA had no other choice than to look into the matter further and Vettel was called in to explain his actions.
The decision was made that the ten second stop and go was a sufficient penalty, however, Vettel finally admitted he was wrong and that he knows Hamilton had no ill intent toward him at the time.
"Concerning the incidents of Baku I'd like to explain myself: During the re-start lap, I got surprised by Lewis and ran into the back of his car. With hindsight, I don't believe he had any bad intentions," he said.
"In the heat of the action I then overreacted, and therefore I want to apologise to Lewis directly, as well as to all the people who were watching the race. I realise that I was not setting a good example. I love this sport and I am determined to represent it in a way that can be an example for future generations."
