Wallabies player Fraser McReight remained composed while speaking to media on Tuesday, despite uncertainty surrounding his future with Rugby Australia.

Addressing questions about the timing of a new contract with RA and Queensland Rugby Union, the 25-year-old flanker claimed he was in โ€œno rushโ€ to finalise a deal.

โ€œI just want to enjoy my rugby, and enjoy winning and competing,โ€ McReight said to reporters.

โ€œIf I'm playing my best rugby, and doing my best right here [with Queensland] first and foremost, and then take it into the Wallabies, that [contract] will take care of itself.โ€

McReight was a key player in the Wallabies' promising 2024 season, despite a broken hand sidelining him for part of The Rugby Championship.

With RA showing little urgency in securing his future ahead of the Lions tour, McReight remains focused on the fierce competition within the Reds' back row.

While discussing his teammates, flanker Harry Wright and No. 8 Harry Wilson - who both captained Australia last year - McReight highlighted that the team's depth extends far beyond them.

โ€œIt's not just us three. We've got a pretty stacked back-row with โ€˜JB', โ€˜Brially', even Seru can mix it with the second-rowers there, so we've got so much competition and it starts at training.โ€

โ€œYou've got to earn your stripes, which we understand.โ€

With Week 1 of the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific competition kicking off on February 14th, any uncertainty surrounding McReight's future with Rugby Australia will take a back seat as attention shifts to the Reds' upcoming season.
