Red Bull Holden Racing and DJR Penske teased the fans of what's to come this weekend as they went head to head in the second and final forty five minute free practice session of the weekend here at the Hidden Valley circuit in Darwin.

Emerging at the top of the leaderboard when the chequered flag fell was none other than the Red Bull Holden of number 88, Jamie Whincup, who set a time of 1:06.04, a mere .04 faster than Scott McLaughlin's DJR Team Penske.

"The car's good. We're obviously changing it up heaps,” Jamie said. “We can't just sit on our hands and cruise around. Definitely the car's better, we made improvements after the test day. Hopefully that continues on for the rest of the weekend. But there's always plenty of time for everyone. If we can find time I'm sure everyone can."

Team Vortex driver Craig Lowndes, who finished second fastest in the opening session, ended the day in a very pleasing third place.

Scotty Pye was fourth ahead of David Reynolds in the Erebus. Nick Percat, Tim Slade James Moffat, Shane van Gisbergen and Will Davison rounded out the top ten.
