Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur has again lived up to his nickname ‘The Demon,' fighting back from a set and break down against his Czech opponent, Tomáš Macháč.
In a crucial match for his hopes of qualifying for the ATP Finals in Vienna, de Minaur entered with high expectations, currently ranked 10th worldwide, with a predicted 5th seed placement in the Vienna tournament.
In the opening round of the Erste Bank Open, de Minaur faced Czech Macháč, ranked 75th in the world. Macháč's strong serve and control of the match loomed large, with the potential to end de Minaur's final hopes in the first round.
Struggling against Macháč's aggressive style, de Minaur could only look on as the first set slipped away 1-6, however, in typical fighting style, De Minaur's court coverage and aggression led to one of the best comebacks of his career, defeating Macháč 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
De Minaur's persistence and determination allow hope for his potential next four matches in the tournament, first up tonight's match against American, Learner Tien.
Tien currently ranks 18th worldwide, with the two players having never met in tournament play before.
