Think of baseball, and one invariably thinks of stars and stripes, with the game representing many archetypes of the American Dream.

For contemporary fans visiting the ballpark, however, the game's most shining star is not American at all, but rather a two-way, two-time MVP from Iwate Prefecture, Japan.

With the twinned ability to hit 100 miles per hour off the mound and to send the ball out of the yard even faster, Shohei Ohtani is the most exciting name to grace the diamond since a man named 'Babe' was belting long balls in the Bronx a century ago.

And with this ability to influence the game on offence as well as defence, it is little wonder why Ohtani recently put pen to paper on a 10-year, $700 million contract, trading life in Orange County for the bright lights of Chavez Ravine and a future in Dodger Blue.

However, after undergoing a second surgery on his elbow, Ohtani won't take the mound in 2024.

Fear not, though, because with x home runs from x career at-bats, including x across the past x seasons, baseball fans the globe over can still expect fireworks from the man they call 'Shotime'.
