A desperate last-lap lunge changed everything at Phillip Island today.

As Craig Lowndes continued to turn the screws on championship leader Mark Winterbottom by winning the feature race at the Super Sprint, it was his Red Bull team mate Jamie Whincup who made the headlines.

He fired down the inside of Winterbottom just three corners from the chequered flag, crashed into his rival's Falcon, and stole third place and nine vital championship points.

The Phillip Island results mean there are only two final contenders for the driver's championship, with David Reynolds mathematically out of the contest, and Red Bull Racing closing fast on Prodrive Ford for the teams' title.
